Dear Ruthie, Richard, Michele and Sandy: We were very sad to hear about Darwin. He was wonderful, sweet, kind and charitable. We first met when the Irving Price Heart Foundation was created. Ruthie and Darwin were instrumental in its formation and longevity. Our bowling league was the most fun. My fondest memory was when my son David was about to play Little League. Darwin was the manager. I went to the parents meeting where he asked for volunteer coaches. I raised my hand. He told me that a MOM could not be a coach. I loved him in spite of this ruling. Please accept our condolences. With love, Donna and Jack

Darwin and Ruthie were our next door neighbors on Bell Avenue in Chicago for at least 10 years. I remember Richard and Michelle as little children and a third child that was born before they moved to a bigger home in Lincolnwood. Darwin was a very kind and friendly person who cared a lot about others. My parents knew him from the old West side. I last saw him about 40 years ago at the L station downtown and he was as friendly as ever. His passing leaves a deep hole in the world.
Please accept my deepest sympathies.

Darwin was never without a smile, and everyone was greeted with a handshake, hug or kiss or combination. My Dad and he were West Side boys and Crane friends. Mom was part of Ruthies weekly card games for over 3 decades and Dad was part of Darwins. Without Darwin, my brothers and I wouldn’t exist.. as he fixed my parents up on a blind date. Those West Side boys stuck together and they shared vacations, Mitzvahs and hardships. Table 22. This great man, will be sorely missed by the extended Block Family and our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with all the Berkowitz’s and the people whose lives where forever touched from being lucky enough to have had this man in their lives.
